If you know too much, you need help

In a society that is obsessed with moving faster, working harder and knowing more, it takes a determined and intelligent person to stop trying to dab their paintbrushes into every field and concentrate on becoming a trusted expert in their chosen field.

Humans are used to tribes

Scientific studies show that the community around us can have a positive influence on our health and lifestyle choices.

One person cannot have all the superpowers at once. Even the most knowledgeable and talented people throughout the history of mankind (and even in fictional novels and films) have needed help from their sidekicks, loved ones, or professionals.

This is sort of why we chose to live in tribes, communities, civilizations… And then the division of labor took place, encouraging individuals to become experts in their respective fields, and come together to create something bigger than themselves.

A 21st century problem

As we started to move towards a more individualistic society again, we are starting to see individuals who try to be supermen/women and bite off more than they can chew. Often very smart people, these individuals know many things and are 'all-rounders', or 'Jacks of all Trades'.

It's tempting to learn new skill after new skill, control everything you can get your hands on, and constantly check in on 20 projects at once. Especially for entrepreneurs or small business owners, this is something that flows in our blood.

It's time to stop

Realistically, how much influence do you have over something you spend 15 minutes of your time on every day? How well have you mastered the 54th skill you learned this week?

In a society that is obsessed with moving faster, working harder and knowing more, it takes a determined and intelligent person to stop trying to dab their paintbrushes into every field and concentrate on becoming a trusted expert in their chosen field.

It's time to get help.

And no, we don't mean help to reorganize how you live your life. That's your business. It's time to get help for your company from various business experts. Here are a few wake-up calls:

Small business owner with a growing revenue?

Stop doing your own finances and get a financial expert - it doesn't even need to be an in-house CFO.

Independent management consultant who just landed a big project?

You know you can't manage every part of the project yourself. Both you and your client will be a lot happier if you get help from an IT specialist and marketing specialist and work together to meet the customer's needs.

An entrepreneur with a great idea and a feasible go-to-market strategy?

It's time to be resourceful and find someone who will help your product to start making money. Otherwise, your idea will never become reality!

From 'me' to 'we'

We all heard the ancient saying "it's not what you know, it's who you know". Well, this is one of the only things that still hasn't changed in this world. So why are we so obsessed with knowing more?

You come into the business world as an individual, with your own skills, knowledge and experiences, but you must always become part of a bigger entity, a community where 'me' becomes 'we'. Working together can create value such that 1+1=3. It is not embarrassing not to know how to do something - it is disgraceful not to ask for help when you need it.

Surviving alone is not an option anymore.
